Navigation and Avalanche Avoidance
What is it?
The two day course covers navigation skills and avalanche avoidance. The content is covered whilst on the move and there will be ample opportunity for practise and feedback. The one day course focusses purely on avalanche awareness.
Who is it for?
This course is for people who have toured and are looking to become more independent in the mountains on skis. Please follow the link for detailed prerequisites.
Mountaineering & Ropework Skills for Steeper Terrain
What is it?
Ice axes, crampons & ropes are not the normal things you take out when piste skiing, so here you will learn about how and when to use them. A day focussing on skills is followed by a varied journey searching out terrain where you can put them into practise. We introduce you to the key skills needed to keep yourself and friends safe on steep terrain.
Who is it for?
Competent snowsports tourers who may not have had experience using winter walking and mountaineering equipment. Those looking to keep themselves safe on steeper terrain. For full prerequisites please follow the link.
Steeps & Gully Skiing
What is it?
Two days of seeking out the best steeps & gully skiing available. You will be coached on techniques for safely descending and ascending gullies and steeper slopes. This will include jump turns, side slipping, short turns and other tips and tricks.
Who’s it for?
Ski tourers who are confident moving independently around the mountain and now want to tackle steeper and more challenging terrain. You should be happy skiing a variety of gradients and snow types, as well as using ice axe and crampons. It may be necessary to use a rope to safe guard entry onto steeper slopes. *Our intro to steeps 2 day course will be a hybrid of lift served and ski touring. It is designed to develop your descent skills and give you confidence in this type of ground. No ice axe and crampons required.
